When you host your next gathering at Three Pines, you get to experience Petersburg, Illinois along with this historic home. In many ways, Petersburg is a quintessential midwestern hometown; it has a bustling square filled with local businesses and friendly folks that are quick to say a hearty “hello.” From grabbing a beer at Hand of Fate Brewing Company to popping into one of the locally owned shops to checking out the Abraham Lincoln site at New Salem, there is plenty to keep you occupied during your visit.
Food.
Dr Ug’s Drugstore Cafe — they have the best flatbreads (and are conveniently located in Hand of Fate). Located on the north side of the square.
Bean Time Cafe — a cozy spot for coffee, baked goods, homemade soup, or a sandwich. Located on the west side of the square.
Gilmore’s Cafe — the go-to spot for your comfort food favorites. Located four blocks south of the square on Route 97.
Los Rancheros — tacos, fajitas, massive margaritas...need we say more? Located one block east of the square on Douglas Street.
Corner Cafe — try out their infamous skillets, horseshoes, and gyros. Located on the east side of the square.
The Lounge at River Bank Lodge - a log cabin inspired bar known for their fresh-made pizzas and appetizers (and they have takeout too)! Located four blocks south of the square on Route 97.
Leo’s Pizza — pick up pasta or a stuffed crust pizza (their twist on a classic). Located on the north side of the square.
China Ocean — a tasty spot with all your favorites for dine-in or takeout. Located on the east side of the square.
Drink.
Hand of Fate Brewing Company — the best beer in the state, hands down (they won the Illinois 2018 Bicentennial Craft Beer Award). Located on the north side of the square.
West of Wise Winery — from rosés to red blends, this local spot has tons of great wines (and a rustic tasting room that is open Wednesdays - Sundays). Located three miles south of town on Route 97.
Hill Prairie Winery — sample delectable wines in their 100-year-old barn that overlooks with vineyard (plus, there is live music every Sunday afternoon). Located seven miles north of town on Route 97.
Parkside Tavern — this hometown hangout is a perfect place to catch up with friends or watch a game in a country setting (and they have a large deck overlooking the river). Located two miles south of town on State Park Road.
Sights.
New Salem — step 200 years back in time to experience the village where Abraham Lincoln lived and worked as a young man (they also host plays, festivals, and candlelight tours).
Outdoor Recreation — at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area (known as site M) there are 15,000 acres of open spaces for hiking, camping, fishing, horse riding, and hunting.
Shopping — tons of antique and boutique stores are clustered around the square. From clothing to home decor, the spots on the square are great for window shopping or picking up something special.
Springfield — it is only a 30 minute drive to the state capital where you can visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, the Frank Lloyd Wright Dana Thomas House, the Washington Park Botanical Garden, and so much more!
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum — this museum documents the life of the 16th U.S President, along with the course of the Civil War. It combines traditional scholarship with 21st century showmanship techniques, making it one of the most visited presidential libraries. It is definitely worth a visit!
